flannel in baby quilts
Do any of you uses cotton and flannel together when piecing a top.
I have not but I have seen quilts that have cotton, chenille, minky and flannel. Makes for a touch sensitive quilt.
I agree with cjsews that it should work - as long as you shrink the fabrics well before sewing them together! (They shrink at different rates.)
Yes.............problem?
Yes I have used cotton and cotton flannel in the same quilt. I also prewash ALL my fabrics before using and didn't find any problems with a different % of shrinkage. Are you doing a project with them at the moment?
Yes, I have made several w/flannel backing. I always pre-,wash the flannel as shrinkage can be significant in some brands. I am currenly making my adult son a flannel topped kit quilt and advised not to wash until top is pieced fully. It seems quite heavy already ( lots QST) so think my backing will be a cotton as this will make lighter to handle when machine quilting.

I have a cotton and flannel quilt in the works right now. The fabrics were chosen by a 10 year old. Flannel is pre-washed, as is the cotton, so I anticipate no problems. It will have both a batting and a fleece back, also at the childs request.
I always wash my flannel and I am not normally a pre-washer of fabrics.
I've been doing it for years! I incorporate flannel into most of my quilts.
Thanks for all you comments. I have a piece of flannel I was thinking of making into the center panel and then adding cotton colors to accent it but have never mixed the two. Will try that this winter.
