Is this it? http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...t-t178534.html
I started one a few weeks about FMQ on flannel. Just to let all my encouragers know, it was a success. |
there have been lots of flannel discussions---what are you looking for? did you have specific questions?
i can tell you some people (like me) love to work with flannels and use them alot- others hate to use flannel and talk (mean) about it some people pre-wash their flannels 3 or more times before using it- some of us do not- flannel just like other cottons come in a variety of qualities/weights/weaves thin, single sided, inexpensive flannels will stretch, shrink quite a bit and pil when washed good quality, heavy double sided flannels do not stretch much when working with them, do shrink but not much more than any other cotton quilting fabric, and get softer, loftier better with washings. they are a looser weave than regular quilting cottons- so the edges (sometimes fray more than 'usual') i use heavy, double sided flannels and a wider seam allowance than the usual 1/4" if you type flannel quilts into the search box you will find pages of discussions about flannels....and pages of quilt pictures of flannel quilts. if you have specific questions- just ask- you will receive hundreds of different answers |
Thank you Ladies, after search awhile longer I found it, it was where and what kind to buy, Thank you all.

OK Peach, Could you post the thread? Thanks

I'd like to give a warning to those who want to use the flannels sold the past few years at Joanne's. I've been using my stash of them for charity quilts this winter. Much to my distress, I have found that any color more intense than a pastel is a real color bleeder. I have prewashed them twice with 2 color catchers each time and they are still bleeding big time. Another problem is that they are starting to look rather shabby. I'm so glad that I didn't succumb to the flannel Black Friday sale because it is really cheesy now.

I purchased many yards of flannel on Black Friday at Joann's, enough to make 5 quilts for Christmas. While reading the threads here after I bought the flannels, I was truly scared to use them. Many people said that the flannel fabrics from Joann's were not worth using. I think one person said she wouldn't even use her finished quilt for her dog. I used 3 color catchers when I washed them and was afraid to open the washer after it was through washing, because I had not washed any of the fabric before sewing! I am so glad to report that I had no problems with pilling or bleeding, and one of the flannels was bright red. Who knows what will happen after they have been washed many times, but for the time being, I am thrilled with them.

I also purchased many yards of flannel at Joanns black friday online sale. The quality and weight differed for some of the flannel, but I have got to say the flannel angel looked down upon my flannel - and blessed me. they worked wonderfully - little pilling. I will post pics of the quilts when they are finished. 10 flannel quilts for davids house - first time in my life I made 10 of anything. I am enjoying it - easy stack and whack.
