flannel quilt - need some help

2 Attachment(s)
So I have all this flannel that I've discussed in some other posts and I've made some kaleidoscope type blocks from it and am putting together several quilts from them. I've arranged these blocks a couple of different ways to try to get something, maybe a baby quilt, out of them. Here are 2 different arrangements. Any suggestions? I've added some background colors to see how that would look. Is it really horrible? Do you think some other background color might work better? Help!

I love the blocks. I like the red but think I like the design wall color better.

I also like a white or off-white, but I hate to do that on a quilt. It will get dirty so fast.

I like the second arrangement better. Have you tried a black background? Also, what's the plan for back of the quilt?

I would like to see all red going through that center design. That shade of blue isn't quite right to me.

What you mean is: it will SHOW the dirt. LOL

I like all the backgrounds. They all bring out the pretty blocks.

I have seen this done with the dark green and it was beautiful. Please try it and see how it looks.

Tiggersmom 01-28-2016 09:42 PM

I vote for dark green or dark red.

Cheshirecatquilter 01-28-2016 10:16 PM

I'm not crazy about the two large 9 patches, but the others are an interesting use of the 4 patch posey idea, and the top arrangement is attractive and balanced. The red is nice, or maybe even pick up the green in the plaid.

I would go dark green, black the colour of a dark strip in fabric with first design. The red and blue don't go. Love the blocks.

I like the placement of the blocks in the second picture best. The darker red seems to look better on my screen than the blue or the brighter red in the top position.

i like having them on a color rather than white, but i'm not sure that blue is the right blue... maybe more toward a navy blue. i love the way you have arranged the plaid in kaleidoscope fashion

I like your second layout better as well. Think it makes the colors as well as the blocks 'pop' a bit more.

I will try to think about the back once I figure out the front. :-)

I'd suggest a darker blue than the one presented. You've got a nice arrangement of blocks~ :)

ManiacQuilter2 01-29-2016 08:57 AM

Have you any black flannel?? It might make the red pop.

tessagin 01-29-2016 09:07 AM

I would go with black.

wesing 01-29-2016 06:46 PM

I vote for red.

Taughtby Grandma 01-30-2016 04:27 AM

I like the red, but I agree a dark green if you have it would look really pretty too.

sassysews2 01-30-2016 07:30 AM

have you thought about downloading the Home Depot app where you can try the different colors for sashing and solid color blocks. Just a thought.

pal 01-30-2016 07:39 AM

My thought was: navy blue background and make all of the small squares solid red. Then use the small plaid squares as the basis for another baby quilt.

MaggieLou 01-30-2016 07:44 AM

I would move the two large nine patches to the center instead of the sides. I agree with trying the dark green as a background.

klswift 01-30-2016 09:14 AM

I really like the blocks with the 4 HST on a diagonal. I prefer the ones that accentuate the black/red instead of the white. I am surprised about how much I like the 9 patch in the corner. It is very, very busy, but it works! The one block I am having trouble with is the upper corner mixing of the med. patch with the 5 smaller ones. My eye is getting distracted by it. I agree that the red helps the blocks pop. If you aren't happy with that much red, add a larger black border on the edge and it should calm the red down a bit. No matter what, it is a quilt that just makes you want to wrap yourself up in it!

I never would have thought of doing this pattern with plaids but I totally love what you have come up with. So many options for fun arrangements! 4PP is one of my favorite patterns to play with anyway!

lesliewine 01-30-2016 04:14 PM

I like them both But maybe a dark back ground or pastels

Jingle 01-30-2016 04:51 PM

I'm with a dark background.

Here's another arrangement. I think I would use white flannel in the background for this. What do y'all think?
Thanks!

sayjan 01-31-2016 03:03 PM

yup I like that layout and I would use a dk red or dk green nice looking. Can't wait to see it finished

MaggieLou 02-01-2016 06:08 AM

Carol45, I like your second layout much better.

Pennyhal 02-01-2016 10:51 AM

I like the red as the blue seems off too me. I love how you did the plaids!
