flannel quilts

I have yards and yards of flannel from pajamas and bought to make pajamas so all is prewashed. I want to make a boy and a girl quilt as I have the yardage for it. What shape template would make a nice quilt. I don't want to do squares. I have done a tumbler, and several pinwheels. Anybody have some adorable but easy ideas? I probably have 15 yards or so.
Thanks,
Evelyn

How about a drunken path.

Do you have a half hexagon ruler? The big hexagons would be cute but they are easier to do with the half hexie rulers. Simple squares take on a whole different look when you put them on point. Chevron quilts are popular right now and the one made from rectangles is easier.

Flannel loves to stretch so I find a simple pattern is best. This is not the fabric to use for a multi pieced block. A framed square, square in a square or rail fence design works well. The Warm Wishes or Yellow Brick Road are other good choices. I don't like cutting flannel into tiny pieces either because of the stretch so keep the pieces bigger too.

I agree that flannel works best in larger pieces, because of the potential for both stretching and fraying. I posted some quilt pics recently that might work well; take a look at the first quilt and the last quilt in this post for some ideas if you like: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...y-t234136.html

this is one I recently did and everyone seemed to love it

it was made by placing two squares facing, sew both sides of the diagonal and slice... then repeat the process

Here are a couple I've done recently. Most of mine are squares, though--lots of plaids. I'm doing a Warn Wishes now--the pattern seems to be working well with the fabric. (Sorry these pictures are so enormous!)

Saw not your typical flannel quilt in simplicity pattern 2493/ You can see it on the JAF website under patterns. There are variety of critters to make out of flannel.
