fleece for backing

Is there any compelling reason why fleece should not be used as backing on a t-shirt quilt?

No. There's no reason it couldn't be used. Neither the fleece nor the t-shirts will be shrinking, so there's nothing to shrink unevenly.

Only one reason - it might be too easy! :D Seriously though, fleece is very warm and would make a great backing!

You'll never know til you try it!!!!!!!

My hesitation would be that perhaps the stretch of the t-shirts and the stretch of the fleece as backing might be hard to get stability for quilting. .......... And certainly not saying it would not work. It's just a thought, and something I would think thru before going forward.

It does work, and makes for a very warm quilt.

I am working on memory quilts.. these are about 75% tshirts. I put interfacing on the tshirts. Every one of these will have fleece backing... I had no problems quilting.. but I just did straightline quilting.. no FMQ. The fleece makes the quilts very soft and cuddly. I have 5 completed now and I have not run into any problems

I've put it on over 40 quilts that I've hand quilted and they come out great, especially for kiddies.
I also put it on the back of my kitties (cat) 3/4" hex quilt, she loves it

Thank you all so much for your responses. It makes my decision so much easier, particularly since the team fabric I wanted for the backing only comes in fleece.

What type of batting (if any) are you using? I'm making a tshirt quilt also and the fleece is the only material my DH likes...do you use the fluffy batting/ flatter dense batting / no batting? I'm having trouble deciding.
