Floor Hoops for Quilting
I'm considering buying one but curious to know if anyone on this board has any experience using one.

Do you have to be able to quilt multiple directions with a floor hoop? I can only quilt coming towards me.

I have used a small frame made of PVC, the quilt held in place with PVC clamps it's a Qsnap.

I have 2 different floor hoops from Hinterberg - an 18" and a 29". I bought the the larger one first and someone said it was easier to use a smaller hoop so I decided to get it. Either one works well. They till easily and out of the way - it keeps the quilt up and off of me. I also have a frame that looks a bit like a card table with the quilt in it - it folds up and fits under the bed but the "hoop" is square and the corners are connected with brackets and screws. (I bought it about 25 years ago at a quilt show.) It holds the quilt fine, but it doesn't get out of the way very well, and I have to sit up to it instead of pulling it up to me.

Have you ever used the floor stand by Edmunds? It has good reviews on the web site.

*** I have 2 that I found at Yard Sales. No names on them. *** *** They were unstable until I glued them. Now they work just fine. *** *** You could quilt in only 1 direction, but I like to give every which way and just move the stand. *** |
I got it about 4 years ago, and have done 8 or 9 quilts on it now. I like it better than the hoop I was using, and its easy to take down without removing the quilt, if you have to. Just lift the rails out, wrap the quilt around them, and move the supports. Its fully adjustable for height and angle, and you can use longer or shorter rails for different sizes. I got it from keepsake quilting.
