I went to Jo-Ann's armed with my sale flyer last night. After getting fabric cut noticed the coupons this time are all dated for specific dates but not one was dated for this weekend even though the flyer was current! Luckily I had my Hancock flyer in the car and used it to get 40% off one piece of fabric but put back 2 items due to no coupons.
the fliers they have recently are very confusing...different dates on different pages.
That's annoying. Are these a direct mail flyer or a newspaper ad? I didn't get my direct mail ad this week :(
I have done this countless times. It seems like I'm either a day early or a day late for the sales I want to take advantage of. It's frustrating.
Yep ! ugh
I've complained about that, too. Now I just watch for sales on battings and go in only on those days. One of the employees noticed I hadn't been in for a long while.....I told her why. She agreed -- said it's very confusing for the staff, too!!!

Most JoAnns will also accept Hobby Lobby and Michael's coupons, although Michaels cannot be used for fabric because they dont sell any.
I agree with everyone about the frustration with using their coupons. I hate when they have great coupons, but you can't use them because everything is already on sale only for not as much as the coupons! Ours used to let you use the coupon for the lower price, but not anymore. The last time I needed quilter's flannel I waited until it WASN'T on sale so I could use my coupon & get a better price!

Did you know that Joann's has an app for iphones? The app has coupons that stay on your iphone and when you check out at the register, just hand over your phone with the coupon on the screen. The check out person enters the coupon number from the phone. Each coupon has an exp date. I have had my iphone since October and there are always coupons to replace the expired ones. Right now there is a coupon for 40% off any one regular priced item. Exp 1/29/11. Also, a coupon for 50% off selected classes. I have used these coupons at Joann's.

The coupon on the back cover of your direct-mail flyer is good for the whole sale promotional period... Then if they are having a special sale (like a Moonlight Madness / Firefly Frenzy / Daffodil Dash) ~ those coupons will have the sale dates printed on the coupon (valid Jan 23-29, 2011) etc.
The one sale name that will let you use lots of coupons is "Coupon Commotion Week" ~ but they are labelled "one regular item" or "one notions item" or "one craft item". Have you also heard of "if they are from different sources"? Haa haa, you CAN use a 40% from the NPI (newspaper insert) and a 40% from your DM (direct mailer) and a 40% from your email signup all on one transaction. Now to dispell some of the confusion: If you use your 40% coupon on an item, and there is a special "10% off entire purchase" coupon, that 10% will not come off the item that used the 40% coupon (that's a double coupon). The 40% are limited and not good on certain items, like Cricut machines, sewing machines, Rowenta irons, patterns, etc. Those items are price controlled by the vendors. If an item is on sale, it won't let you use a coupon. Yes, we used to be able to override it (if on sale for 30%, but you had a 50% coupon, we could override) ~ but they took that capability away about 4 years ago. I was a merchandising mgr ~ I got good at explaining it to lots of patrons. If they were still upset, I could do a managers over-ride and allow an additional non-sale item "managers coupon"... just not on certain items (like Cricut) |
iphone app? I will check that out. Thanks
yes, they just announced the mobile app about a week ago... hey, it's another coupon!!! :)
In the past the coupons on the back were for the entire flyer period but this time they were for special days and it didn't include last night. I agree that the person at the cutting table was embarrassed when I noticed I couldn't use the coupon because it wasn't for the entire time of the flyer. Best to check carefully from now on.
My flyer for this time at Joanns has one coupon for 40% good for the entire sale and one for 50% for the last week of the sale. There are more inside. Maybe they have different ads for different states?

Last time I ordered a whole roll of polyester batting 40 yds(I'm a longarm quilter) I wanted to use a 40% off coupon on it but they told me it was already on sale. I looked thru the flyer and it only mentioned PACKAGED batting (like the smaller 10 yd pkgs.) you can buy. But I was ordering a whole 40 yd. roll that they cut off BTY. I went back and looked at the shelf where she got the # to order it with and there was NO notice there that the BTY poly batting was on sale (except the 10 yd. pre cut pkg.) Because THEY supposidly have it on sale I did get to use my 10% off card on that but I would have been $12 ahead if I could have used the 40% coupon. GRRR!!! When I asked about it she just kept saying you could tell it was on sale because it had a * after the order number. Well, you don't know that till AFTER they give you the ticket. Maybe IF you knew (nothing mentioned in flyer or in store) that was on sale, you might have bought more. GRRR!!!

The non-adv sale items drove me insane because we had a lot of older patrons come in thinking their fave yarn was not on sale... only to find out after arriving that it was, hence no coupon. It was frustrating for me, too. I am glad I am now outta there and can quilt! :) |
We don't have Joann's around here and all your frustrations make me glad there isn't one, lol.
I have signed up for the flyer about 10 times, never get it, I agree about their flyers, the last time I was there I wanted some batting that I thought was on sale, it was the next day only. I live 4 hours away, going back the next day was not going to happen. Very frustrating.
If you Google Joann coupons, there are options that come up where you can print out coupons to use. You can do this with any business that offers coupons.
Hancocks sale flyers are the same way. Different days for different things. I had the same problem when I went to Hancoks. Luckily I asked about someting so I found out
before I bought something I thought was on sale but wasn't. |
If you go to our JoAnn's with a coupon & you get notions as well as fabric cuts they will take the coupon off the cheaper notions & charge full price for the fabric. One has to get creative!! Go with DH & have him checkout separately or something. I personally think that's bad business, but they do it all the time!
Jo-Anns is my last choice for fabric,,,,,, they just are way too much hassle
Have to tell you a good story about JoAnn Fabrics! I live in Southern Ontario but we often travel into Niagara Falls to spend time and to shop and of course JoAnn's is the main place for me to stop! I checked the dates on the recent coupons carefully and was able to use the 40% coupon on a 5-pack of rotary blades and then when the clerk saw that I had another high-priced item, she tore the 40% coupon out of one of their store flyers to use it on that item, and on top of that I had a VIP card which gave me another 10% off everything! That included the best buy of all which was a lighted Christmas village building that was regularly $40 with a 70% discount so it only cost me about $12 - and it was a JoAnn Fabrics building!!! I noticed that their fabric prices had increased (didn't buy any fabric) but coming from Canada, they still seem quite good to me! Because I teach in a fabric shop here, I receive a good discount but most of our prices run about $12 - $15 per metre which is only about 3 1/2" more than a yard.
I have a 10% discount card from Quilters Club of America that is good for 10% off the entire bill at Joann's (sale & regular prices) and my local Hancock's will accept it too.
My best buy was a couple weeks ago when Joann's had 50% off of W & N batting, $5.49@. I wanted a whole 40 yard roll but they were out so they special ordered it for me (same sale price) plus I got my additional 10% off. Price ended up 60% off! I was in heaven! lol |
My JoAnn's won't let you use coupons from different sources (flyer or newspaper, etc.) They say they aren't allowed to do that anymore. Did something change recently? I worked at JoAnn's in FL several years ago and if the coupons were from different sources we could use them.

This drives me crazy about joann's. I know if it catches me off guard it does others too. I've almost given up on their coupons because of it. I definitely don't make a special trip any more to uae them. Been disqppointed too many times.
Do you really expect anythng different from Joanns??
Joann's does not have a membership here. no point in complaining here.
