Flying geese and HST rulers
I am looking for recommendations/advice on rulers for flying geese and HST. Thanks you!

I use Deb Tucker's rulers (Studio 180 Designs). Wing Clipper for flying geese and Tucker Trimmer for HSTs. You cut everything (per the ruler instructions) just a bit larger than normal and then trim them down to size, so you get great accuracy.

Flying geese: Deb Tucker's Wing Clipper
HST: Easy Angle and Companion Angle or Bonnie Hunter's new ruler Edit: EIquilter, you were posting while I was typing. |
I cheat and use accuquilt dies. because I usually make a lot of geese at one time.....
I use dies too. My hsts sew accurately, no trimming down. Sure saves a lot of time.
I use Deb Tucker’s and Bloc loc rulers. Love both.
For FG I like Eleanor Burns' ruler. I don't use a special ruler for HST's.
I don't use specialty rulers... i have some, but using my regular rulers have become a habit.
I have the Easy Angle (for wings) and the Companion Ruler (for the geese) and they work fine, but Bonnie Hunter has a new ruler the Essential Triangle ruler does both wings and geese.
I've not tried the Deb Tucker ruler. Below are video's of Bonnie's and Deb's rulers to help you decide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDUbcC17cFY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7WQpzknLGg And the Eleanor Burns ruler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WElW8sqkuw |
Bloc loc rulers!!!
Bloc Loc rulers. They are wonderful.
Bloc Loc ruler for both FG and HST.
You don't really need rulers for accurate FGs or HSTs. Use the "No Waste method" for FGs and the HST method like this https://www.thespruce.com/easy-half-...quilts-2821466
both allow the making of several at a time. Happy day. |
Thank you! I appreciate all your advice!

If you are making a lot of HST the bloc loc rulers are worth every penny you pay for them . They are wonderful for trimming them. I don't like to buy rulers with limited uses. I used a bloc loc ruler at a guild sewing day and looked it up on my phone and ordered one right then. I also make my HST with the 8 at a time method.

I love triangulations. It is paper pieced but they are perfect. They are especially good if you are joining more than one.
I use bloc locs and Deb Tucker's Wing clipper. They have really saved me from a lot of headaches! I have an accuquilt but don't always have the right size dies for my project.
While I have two Elanor Burns Flying Geese Rulers, I do not use them (my DH has given them to me as a present). What I use daily for both hsts and flying geese is the Olfa 6 x 12 Frosted ruler. Love it and use it for just about everything.
I use the Eleanor Burns ruler for flying geese. I always have nice geese without losing any points.
I use the 4 at a time FG method. Almost NO trimming needed. Fast and easy. Any old ruler with a diagonal line works.
https://www.generations-quilt-patter...lt-blocks.html This site has a download for a chart to make almost any size you want. It's a great site in general. |
I paper piece both FG and HST. Accurate every time.

I finished 2 quilts this past year, each used over 300 FG each. Used the 4 at a time, no waste method for both. First one, I trimmed using my regular ruler, I broke down and ordered Deb Tucker Wing Clipper for the 2nd. BIG difference in time savings and accuracy! You do need to trim your units down using the 4 at a time method. I don't usually buy specialty tools, but this one was worth every penny! I like how her rulers can do 10 sizes each, not just 1 size like many specialty rulers.
