A friend asked a question and I can't answer it--help please. Thanks.

"I need to make some blocks with flying geese in them. I know how to do the 4 at a time but my question is how do you determine what size to make the big block? The little blocks are 2 1/8 and the big blocks are 3 3/4. Do you use the large size and not cut them up until you sew the small blocks on them or make the big blocks larger?"

scroll down a bit, and it gives you the measurements to add to you finished size block.

I was just calculating this this morning and drove myself crazy. Finally I found an explanation (In Quilter's Cache):
To make four at a time, cut a square 1 1/4" larger the the size you want your rectangle to be and four small squares 7/8" larger.
Example: for a 4 x 2 flying geese, cut the square 5 1/4 and the small squares (4 pieces) 2 7/8"
