I've got to try these ideas because my geese never fly. How can they when their points are cut off?
|
I agree with Carmen. I have tried many ways but I found Eleanor Burns the simplest and most accurate. And you can make them scrappy too!! You really don't need her rulers but it is helpful. Her show is on PBS stations. GOOD LUCK !! :XD:

I tried that method a couple years ago and have never done it any other way since then. Love it. They come out perfect.

I'm using a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle and then I'm trying to sew on two 2 1/2" squares. I got the measurements here: http://www.quilterscache.com/F/Flyin...atchBlock.html And on Page 2 you'll find the instructions on how to sew them together to make the Flying Geese. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! He uses 3" squares and a 3" x 5½" rectangle, but I assume you could cut any size you want. And don't forget to check out some of the videos in the right margin! So much information! |
Yeah, I tried that too and still had problems. I'm going to try the step-by-step suggestion someone put on here.

look up a tute from Ellennor Burns. She just did one on TV.

Thank you for the tut - 4 different ways for the flying geese, very helpful, and I like the 4th method !

Jan is right. Also, it was implied with other postings, but not stated: The "scant" quarter inch means from the edge of the seam. A seam has thickness, about 2-3 weaving threads worth. you need to account for that in placing your seam. A good rule is to stop and check after the first seam. If it is not right, go back THEN and correct it. I use a paper hanger's seam roller to quick press my seams and check them.

I, too am horrible at making flying geese. So I rely on paper piecing. See: about.com. Select q, then quilting. Then search paper pieced flying geese.

Eleanor Burns flying geese ruler is super great. First geese I made all came out with perfect points.
|
El Burns rulers work and make perfect geese every time.
I have them all and also her triangle square up ruler. Her methods are fool proof and simple. |
You girls always have the best suggestions and answers !
