"Flying Home" quilt - would you share, please?
If anyone here has made the quilt "Flying Home" by Pam Bono, would you please post them here? Here is a link to what I'm talking about (found on Pinterest):
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/168181367308312281/ I saw a picture of this quilt on this board many years ago and purchased the book because of it. I now want to make it, but the color scheme in the book isn't what I want. The person's quilt I saw on this board was absolutely breathtaking, which is why I purchased the book. So, anyone at all who has made this wonderful quilt...please post a picture so that I can be inspired (along with others) :). Please and thank you! Suzanne |

I loved following Pam Bono. So sad she is gone. I have several of her books and love the quilts I made from them.
|
What is the title of the book that this pattern is in?
|
It is in the "Big Book of Quick Rotary Cutter Quilts". There are many wonderful quilts in the book!
|
Appears most are done in the same shades of brown:

Don't geese fly "home" in the spring. You could use greens and yellows.
|
Someone had that quilt on display at a Quilt Show I attended in Canton, TX several years age. It was breathtaking.
|
tessbug - that is interesting. It makes me think, where is their home? Up north here in Minnesota the geese come in spring where they breed and have their young. When it starts to get cold they head South to get away from the cold. So in my thinking where they have their young is their home, but that is just my opinion. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

I have that book and that quilt is on my "bucket list." I haven't started to think about what colors yet.

How true Sandy, when my daughter was young and I was sewing garments for her she would find a pattern and choose patterns just because of the color of the fabric on the cover. She seemed to have a problem thinking about how a different color would make a darling outfit, or a different pattern would work great with her choice of fabric.
|
She had such great patterns. I have a lot of them downloaded on my computer and a lot of them are on my list to do! Not sure if I have this pattern or not but did admire it and still do. Australia, love your color scheme.

Whatever you plan for this quilt, please post your progress for everyone to enjoy. I love PBs patterns and find lots of inspiration in her books. Thank you Pam.

I made that quilt many years ago and it went to 2 different quilt shops to help sell the book I had forgotten all about it I must have the book around here someplace I did have the opportunity to take some classes from Pam and her husband and use some of her patterns for teaching classes my favorite was the snoozing kitty

Thank you so much for starting this thread and also to the person who provided the name of the book! I love it! I found a used book on Amazon and promptly ordered it. This quilt is now added to my to-do list.

What a lovely quilt. It reminds me of the James Mitchener book Chesapeake. (The recurring theme the geese that are part of of the animal and human culture of the Chesapeake area.) I am not familiar with Pam Bono, only a name I have heard on this Board. Now I understand in just a little way why she was admired. Wonderful colors and so precise.
