I have a question for those of you who have their domestic machine on a frame for FMQ. If you are using a machine with a 9in throat it gives about 4 to 41/2 in of quilting space. What quilting designs/patterns do you use? Also, when doing borders would you do the one across the top and after quilting the centers would you turn the quilt on the frame to do the other borders?

I didn't do anything fancy with mine. Just a large meander. Or as large as 1 1/2 to 2 inches width of the pass. I always started the width of the pass at the beginning to match the ending passes on my quilts. There is a person with a blog that uses a 9 inch domestic and she posts all the things she can do. I sure can't remember who it is, but I'm sure that someone else here may remember.

I use the 3.5" stippling panto all the time. I have also used the 4.5" steam panto and meander panto. Sometimes I just free hand it to, to use the entire space of my machine (although I'm not very good at that lol). I love using my pantos though. There is someone else on here that can use up to 5.5" ones. I have not been brave enough for that yet lol.

Also, I do not turn my quilts. Quilt to the end of it. And if my pantos can't fit the last of it, I free hand it and no one can tell.
