Will second that about the book Machine Quilting Solutions, Kitty. I got from the Book Depository - it is so helpful.
And Izy is right - playing on practice bits is fun - my Yorkies and the cat all have "practice" mats.

Mary--I wish you luck!!! I think you can do it, girl!!

I have recently purchased 4 books on machine quilting and I am determined to learn FMQ too. Lots of practice seems to be the only way.

be happy using your new machine. you're going to have a ball. but be patient.

about the bulb. who cares? after all the bucks you spent, does it really matter? that's a spit in the ocean! don't let it spoil your fun.

I'm taking a class in April at LQS, but every time I've tried, my stiches end uop on top of each other. Anyone have tips on how to regulate your stitch length? I read once that 20 minutes a day for 2 weeks and you will have it mastered.

FREE MOTION QUILTING

it helps if you have something rubbery to help push and pull the fabric with, like rubber gloves or those u-shaped thingies (i hate them). just go at an even speed, slow at the beginning of each session, but not for too long. after about 5 minutes, speed up to medium-slow for 5 minutes. and so on.
keep moving the fabric around in circles eat an even speed. just do circles. keep it moving. up and down, side to side, circles, curves, every direction.
the way you regulate the stitch length, if you don't have a stitch regulator, is by the speed and movement combined. sorry. there is no other way. but if you have confidence, it shouldn't take two weeks. just remember, you're bigger than it is. don't let it bully you around.
