FMQ a large panel
 

If any of you have FMQ a large panel, I'd love to see it. My horse quilt is ready and the horses are too big to just outline, but they don't have feathers or fur to follow so I'm at a loss. Timeless Treasures Wild and Free 24x42, so the horses are not small. Any ideas even without a picture? Here's the panel; http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/142674117725

those horses are quite muscular... i'd folow some of the curves of the muscles

All 4 horses have hair on their lower legs (fetlocks) & I’ve heard that hair called ‘feathers’ so you could follow the lines of the feathers, tails, & manes. For the bodies, I’d do wavy patterns from the necks to backs to follow the motion of the bodies. Your stitching could reinforce the movement of the horses.

I also think that following the muscular lines would be great. One of the biggest challenges will be choosing thread to use. You might need several colors-even in one animal. Maybe you could consider purchasing one of the combination packs of thread. I think your panel is beautiful. Please keep us posted.

beautiful panel ... I echo what others are saying. It will be a lot of work for sure! Your other option is to use the invisible thread. I used that when I did my dance of dragonflies.

Those Timeless Treasures panels are lovely. Figuring out how to quilt them (My quilting skills are limited to a walking foot.) is another kettle of fish all together. I'm working on one right now that is hanging on my wall waiting for the last border. I'm not sure how I'm going to quilt it either. It sure is pretty, though.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for some good ideas.

That panel is lovely. I see lots of lines to follow and flowers to outline.

I just need to sandwich the horse quilt and let it speak to me. It was planned for last night, but I worked too hard in my rose garden yesterday. I'm probably going to add an extra layer of batting under the horse panel. I did with my second Fantasia (the tree of life one) quilt. That one was easy. It had the tree and flowers to follow. I did a heart in the open areas because it was a wedding quilt. I don't think the horses would look good with heart or flower brands. Thank you, everyone. I'm still open to more ideas. So far, match the thread to each horse, do the feet and mane, then take a deep breath and "Just do it".

I think a stipple or some kind of meandering stitch with a "somewhat" matching thread (or invisible thread) for the background would be perfect. Everything in the "picture" is abstract except the horses, so an abstract quilting design in those areas would be perfect (IMHO).

I had such bad luck with invisible thread when it first came out that I never think of using it. I used a soft golden tan on my fan quilt except in the black areas and I liked it. Not a SITDer, but I may do it in the braided parts of the quilt. Maybe 1/4" outlining. We'll see. I like a medium meandering stitch. I was told to never cross lines in stippling and I like loops. Not concerned about the quilt - just the horses. I'll see if I can get a clear picture, but lately my phone has been blurry and my camera won't transfer pictures anymore. Whoops, sideways.
