FMQ Leaves and Vine Borders
Looking for opinions: when fmq leaves and vines on a border up the left side of a quilt and then across the top, do you then continue down the right side so the leaves are going in a different direction from the right side, or do you stop and quilt up the right side so the leaves are going in the same direction? Thanks.

It is up to you. If you are putting it on a bed though, you won’t see both sides at once so do what is easier.

I use vines and leaves on most of my quilt borders, and I just keep going around...never worry about up and down, because vines are likely to be growing any direction anyway. I love my vines, but sure wish I could do nice feathers!

Never a single solution, I'm afraid. I typically like things that turn corners and march around in circles. Doesn't always work so well.
Sometimes I solve the problem by starting the design in the middle and going out from there, middle to middle or middle to corner. If the fabric is directional, I typically design a directional border to go with it. Often that requires a mirror image as well. |

I just quilted a version of feathers in a border and chose to just keep going all around the border and joining up where I started. I do like the look of continuity it brings to the quilt, especially a quilt top that isn't directional and may be turned in any direction.
