FMQ on Minkee questions

Do any of you have suggestions and hints on FMQ using minkee as a backing with cotton pieced blocks on front...and on a domestic 11" harp machine. Spray baste? pin baste? stitch down the outside edges first? Quilt with minkee on top? Was thinking cotton thread for the pieced top and So Fine Bottom Line for the minkee; using Warm and Natural batting? using light weight flannel as batting? no batting?
Most likely it will just be an all over meander with an attempt here and there of a few hearts and swirls. The quilt is a slightly oversized baby size, no borders.
Thank you
Susan

I usually spray baste and pin baste to keep it from shifting....usually no batting,so it drapes softly.

I use Elmer's glue to glue the batting (warm and natural) to the minkee and the top to the batting. I use the same thread in the top and bobbin. I have never had any problems FMQing using minkee. I always test the tension on a quilt sandwich and if you can, make the presser foot higher so it doesn't push down on the fabric at all. Don't let any of it fall off the sides of your work space. The drag will affect your quilting attempts. I know that others have had good results with quilting with the minkee on top. I'm sure you'll get a lot of good ideas from all the smart people here. Have fun!

I haven't ever quilted with Minkee, but when I do FMQ in general, if at all possible I start in the middle and work my way out, regardless of how I've basted. That seems to help prevent puckers better than anything I've tried so far.

I do often glue-baste, usually with at least a few pins as 'extra insurance'.
