FMQ practice
 

Here's my latest practice. Would welcome comments. What do you think of the top stitches? Are they about the right tension? I have some long stitches on the turns of the back. What causes that?...moving too fast?

Looks pretty darn good to me.

Slowing down on curves might help your long stitches. I also find that I tend to jerk a bit on curves and that gives me a longer stitch.

Looking good! I would pay attention to how you move to the new line - make that vertical line wriggly too so that it looks a little like the side of a jigsaw puzzle piece - and no one would ever guess that you are just practising! Good for you!

Looks fine - yes the long stitches are caused by the bobbin skipping while it tries to 'catch up' as you go round corners. It's something everyone - even experienced quilters - does from time to time. I think we concentrate so much on where the needle's going next we sometimes forget to slow down in our excitement, lol.

Does your foot have an open toe? If not, and it's plastic, you can simply cut away the front bar and this will help you see exactly where that needle is - and where you're heading.

I tend to be guilty of small tight stitches every so often - I think I forget to move the fabric while I think - my multitasking capabilities are obviously slowing with age, lol.

Very nice.....

My quilting design leaves a lot to be desired. I am trying for the jigsaw puzzle 'look'. Is there a trick to getting the loops to look like the jigsaw pieces or is it a matter of practice?
Right now, I want to concentrate on getting neat stitching.

I have just begun, and I wish my efforts looked as good as yours!
