When you free motion quilt, do you stop the machine to move your hands? If so what is the technique to start again without jerks? I am trying my first time and enjoying it, but I am getting a few jerks. Thank heaven the my 2 year old niece won't notice!

Yes, stop the machine, with the needle down, reposition your hands take a breath and start up again with the same speed and rythum you were just using.

I agree, stop with your needle in the down position. I tell my students if they think anything has shifted to start very slow until they know all is good then resume their speed. "if" there is a little jog and "if"they are troubled with the little jog, to stop right away and pick it out. Stopping and moving your hands will become automatic as you spend more time FMQ'g. We all had the little jerks when we started and very soon it will so automatic that you won't even realize that you are stopping and moving your hands. Sounds like you are off to a great start, you rock girl!
