ok...so when you are doing Free motion quilting...and you start a thread...or a thread breaks...how do you tie it?? Or when you are done quilting..,do you do a back stitch? I have read to make a knot and put in in between the batting . How???

I begin and end by making a short series of very small stitches and moving back over my stitches a bit. I don't bury my threads in the batting. I'm too impatient for that! I've never had a problem with my stitching coming out.

I am just finishing a quilt where I tied the strings together with 2 simple knots. I then used a self-threading needle to set the threads between the layers where it would not show. This was time consuming and I first thought it would take forever, but the needle really helped and I was able to get it done faster than I thought.

I just bring my bobbin thread up and as I start to stitch I keep it in one place for a few stitches and then off I go, never comes adrift. I do the same when my bobbin thread runs out in a middle of the quilt, which it always does :evil:

I do what Sweet does.

If my thread breaks, I unstitch enough stitches to give me enough thread to tie it off and bury them with a needle. Then I restart a couple of stitches back, taking the bobbin thread up to the top and leaving enough to tie off and bury. That way there's not visible knots, or thickness of stitching from stitching over a previous stitched line.

Same here. I have never tied it or buried it. To time consuming!!

Thank-you!!! I never even thought of using a hand needle....for those of you that do not tie or back stitch does the thread unravel after washing it a few times?

When I start I do a couple of small stitches and then take off. When the bobbin runs out, I very carefully start where it ran out, just a couple of stitches,
