I am working on a charity quilt for my guild. I am doing free motion figuring this would be a good one to practice on, since I did the sandwiching as you all directed. Thank you very much. With FMQ, how do I or do I, knot the ends? Such as starting, stopping or running out of bobbin. Thanks.

When I took my FMQ class, they had us take a stitch and pull the bobbin thread up, hold onto both threads. Then take a few stitches in the same spot to secure then trim threads and go like the dickens.

My machine has a lock stitch, I use that, then two or three small stitches and get going :D:D:D

My machine also has a locking stitch, BUT I find that it makes to much of a knot/bulk on the back. So I pull the bobbin thread up and take a few stitches in place.

That is exactly why I don't use my lock stitich on the Pfaff. Prefer to do it the way I was taught at FMQ class...

Well I did my FMQ and it turned out really nice. Not perfect, but for my first try, I am happy with it. Just have to keep the needles away from the pins, not good! I think I went thru three needles. I also used my stitch lock feature, I forgot about. Worked out well. Thanks for all the tips. Tomorrow, take out the basting and add the binding.

I pull up the bobbin thread and take two or three tiny stitches. Works great for me.
