I was wondering if any of you FMQ on vintage machines and/or if it is possible. I have a Singer 201 that I love and would like to try. What do you need or have to do since I don't see how you can drop the feed dogs?

Yes! I FMQ on my 221 Singer. I don't even cover the feed dogs. I use a short shank darning foot that I modified a bit (I opened the toe and clipped the weird bar that stuck out and got in my way).

I turn the tension up, and the stitch length completely down. Then I go for it.

I do pull up the thread so they are both on the top.

You don't have to drop the feed dogs - if you set the stitch length to "0," they won't be trying to move the quilt anywhere, but I've quilted with them up and there really isn't that much difference.

There are covers for the feed dogs if you find that they impede your progress. :)
