Dear quilters, a while ago there was a tute on how to do a fold over self binding... the girl in the video quilted the top and batting of a placemat then sandwiched that with the backing and showed how to do a fold over self binding...she even offered a pattern you could purchase...I have searched the internet and our search engine for three days....and not been able to find the site...if anyone remembers or knows of the site please post it ....thank you for your help...

I don't know the site but you really don't need a pattern for this. Our guild frequently uses this method for our Community Quilts and it is how my MIL showed me. Once the quilting is done, we just trim the backing back to 1" or 1 1/4" if you like your batting a little wider. Fold it in half once toward the front and fold it over again and top stitch in place. We also mitre the corners as we pin. This method is quick, wears well and unless you are a quilter, you would never know that this is the method that has been used. By the time this binding is thin and wearing out, the rest of the quilt is too. I can bind a queen size quilt using this method in less than 2 hours amd use it for any quilt that is going to get a lot of hard use (college bound, quilts for camp etc.) Hope this helps.

I use this technique on placemats. It is really easy and looks very nice.
