whatfabric what do you mean when you say "Ruler Folded"?

Take a 6 X 24" ruler. Lay it on your fabric making sure the fold is exactly square, then basically roll your fabric on it. When it's all rolled, slide the ruler out and fold in half. This works from 1/2 yard up to about 4 yards. for longer pieces, fold the fabric in half lengthwise (so you wind up with a piece that's about 11" X 5 yards). then wind this on the ruler.
This makes all your fabric roughly the same size and will store easily on a shelf.

I usually fold in half first regardless of length, then roll - either way, you still end up with nice uniform pieces for stacking on shelves.

The fabric usually comes folded in half along the straight of grain, so the selvages are together. I fold it over once more in the same direction so it's about 11" wide, then wrap it around my 8.5"x24" ruler.

As you can see, there are many ways to do a ruler fold.

I'm so glad someone asked what ruler folding was. I was too embarrased to ask cause I've asked so many questions already.

There is a great tutorial on this board showing how to do it also. Just did this with all my fabric and love how organized my drawers are. Much easier to find what I need now.

I use drawers to store my fabric. I just fold twice to a width about 6" then start fold with the depth of the drawer in mind. I usually put anything +2 on an old cardboard fabric board that is used by most fabric manufacturers. They are FREE at my LQS.
