Has anyone made the 'Foldy Log Cabin' quilt using the pattern from Donna at http://www.quiltwithdonna.com/foldystuffpageb.html? I have made a twin size quilt top using this method. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to quilt it? It just seems wierd to stitch across all the folding so was wondering, that since there is a musling foundation if it would be ok to just stitch in the ditch where the blocks meet. Will that be enough quilting?Any suggestions are most welcome.

I found these FAQs at Donna Poster's website.

My very first full sized quilt was a Donna Poster foldy Log Cabin. That was all the quilting I did on the body of the quilt, but I put wide borders on it and that is where I first tried stippling. I was chicken, so I used invisible thread on the front, but actually, it was fairly easy and I enjoyed doing it.
What I meant up above is the only quilting on the body was as you mentioned, between the blocks. That wasn't too clear, what I said first. |
Thanks so much...got all my questions answered!

Check out the quilting requirements on your batting first, then if that works? go for it :D:D:D

Is this the Foldy Log Cabin quilt technique developed by Donna Poster? If so, I've tried to locate an answer to this as well. I have nearly enough blocks made of the round log cabin design for a queen quilt. Like you, I really don't want to sew down the pleates.

Here is a video I made of Donna Poster demonstrating her "Foldy Stuff" techniques. The sewing part is shown from two angles so what she is doing at any given time is crystal clear. Hope this helps anyone breaking in!

I looked at her website, I became very confused. However she has some outstanding free paterns. So what exactly do you need to buy? her transfer paper?

Thanks for the link TomC. Fascinating.

Not really a new technique, guess she is selling the iron on transfer. I learned this and am doing one while I commute on the trolley. I plan to just join my blocks with no batting or backing. The hand sewing the stipes makes a expanding square pattern on the muslin backing.
