Some simple shapes can be found in cookie cutters. As someone already suggested, woodworking patterns for the scroll saw may have simple shapes too. Try looking for a wooden puzzle of barn yard animals at Walmart.

check out the fatcatpatterns website, she has applique designs for free, including farm animals, etc., is doing chickens right now as BOMs, they are very folksy, check out the different 'chapters', saw Some Bunny and Mimi (cow) in the Baby tab, Bullfrog and Saving Stash (pigs) in Childrens (also Tractor and pickup, and I think a flying pig too), turkey in the Holiday tab, farmhouse in the Be My Neighbor BOM ... a good start and don't forget to read her blog, she is a hoot! some of the stunts her family has pulled over the years ... well, better to read them alone so no one thinks you're demented when you start sniggering and then do a magnificent spit take ... enjoy!
