Fons Pencils

What is the difference between the red & blue pencils? I understand they can be used as either white chalk lead or graphite-type lead. Thanks!

I have them both, one with white & one with black for convenience. I can't really tell the difference in the pencils themselves except the color of the plastic. both take the same size leads.

Since they both take .9mm leads, the pencils themselves are probably the same. The Amazon one comes with 10 white refills; the Nancy's pencil comes with 10 white and 10 graphite refills. If you add a refill to the Amazon order, it may still come out as a better price than Nancy's.

Edit: You can also look for other brands of mechanical pencil that use .9mm leads and probably save some money. I don't think there's anything special about the Fons pencil except their styling and brand name.

The blue ones do have the word Dritz on them!
Not that, that really matters!

I really like these pencils ... however, I have had two of the F+P mechanical pencils quit working.
The 1st time I took it back and the store replaced.
The 2nd time I knew I did not want to got through this again, and so, I purchased a mechanical pencil at Staples.

As already mentioned, I too keep two pencils filled up and ready to grab whichever I need at the time ... white or graphite.

If I were buying new again ... I would just buy the refills and go to Staples for two mechanical pencils. Just be sure you get the right lead size.

Don't remember the name off the top of my head and too lazy to run upstairs and look BUT what I did I got the white/light pencil for white lead and a (I think) a green one to hold black/colored leads. That way I can grab without having to stop and stare to see what I have in my hand.

I have the Sewline and bought various colored refills.

I have two of the red ones. I wished I had read this first and I would have bought the leads only and then two different colored mechanical pencils from Office Depot. Both my FP pencils works fine but in light of QuiltE's post I would invest in another mechanical pencil.
