Fons & Porter presents Quiltmaker
I subscribe to Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting and also to Quiltmaker. I just noticed that on my latest Quiltmaker in small letters above the title it says Fons & Porter presents. Has Fons & Porter purchased Quiltmaker? What is going on?
|
Fons and Porter sold their magazine some years ago, just kept the name. It is is the publishing company that owns the rights to Fons and Porter and other quilt magazines. It's the same publisher that owns Reader's Digest, Taste of Home, and many more.

...nothing is really what it appears to be. I caught the tail end of what I think is a new episode of f&p tv series.....Marianne Fons was co-hosting with a woman I did not recognize, nor did I see her name...even did the tips at end of show....so, my thought is this is perhaps a new host for new episodes? Anyone know the back story?
|
Just saw an episode of their quilting show and Marianne was not even the host; it was two ladies I had never seen before and they did have the tips at the end of the show with Mary. It's been a long time since I had seen the show and I just got in sort of the end of the show. I use to watch a lot of the sewing/quilting shows especially Simply Quilts and when that went away so did I.

Not sure what is the problem with F&P on Create TV. Our local channels run the Create 'ad' that F&P is coming up next, but they usually run Quilting Arts or Sewing with Nancy in the place. Maybe the price of F&P went up?
|
both Mother and daughter were on the show today and it was a new one. no idea what is going on. usually it's a man with a guest.
|
I've noticed this as well. Been watching F&P for years now but there seems to be a shift to guest hosts.
|
I haven't watched it in a while. It comes on PBS in our area when they are not doing their fund drives...which is a lot of the time. They need to realize that some of us would support them more if they kept those favorites going. Also this is football season at our house and my husband has been so down lately that anything that he actually wants to see ...we watch. Wish the old Simply Quilts Show was still on. It was my favorite!!

Mary Fons took over when her mother, Marianne, and Liz Porter retired. Mary Fons has decided to leave the show to get a higher degree. Another host was found, forgot her name. This new host will be on the new episodes.
|
I too watch the F&P. What I dislike about all of the shows is that they don't give you any fabric measurements. It seems like they want to make more money from people buying their magazines or patterns.

I agree Doris -- I love Eleanor Burns because I can make a quilt from the directions and measurements she gives. Thanks, OnebyOne -- I was wondering what was going on because Marianne and this stranger were on today. Like the magazine, I guess the show will have the name but not the folks. We're all getting older.
|
I'm glad the show is continuing so I won't complain who the host will be. I've never notice the push for viewers to buy, no more then other quilt shows. Did you know on Simply Quilts the guest quilter had to pay to be on the show so they plugged their books and patterns heavily to make it worthwhile.
|
I watch it - it comes on Mon. And Fri. Create TV. I really like it, not always the same host. I can see from begining to end how to make a quilt. Nice customer sent in ideas at the end. Wish I new the names of the people. I really like the man and lady I see a lot. Will notice that better. I really enjoy that show. Others seem to hit this and that for maybe 5 to 8 mins. Then on to another tip. I like them too but not as much as staying on one pattern and idea.
|
Interesting how the love of quilting show is evolving.....but, unfortunately it's the only one in town.....there's one called quilting arts-too many things in that short 1/2 hr., sewing w Nancy, when she does quilting.....
yes, when it was Marianna and Liz, they would give measurements as they went along....now, all info is referenced to their website, and there one is referred to the book/ hard copy or digital for real info......I've also noticed that the cutting mat is flipped so you can't see inch lines........like everyone one else....selling their wares. |

Have noticed for some time that they twll you what issue pattern and info is in, no sizes or other info. You have to buy mag. and that is not all that nice.

This is like, nancy'a notions hasn't been owned by ZIEMAN for years...she sold to Amazing designs.

You can go on youtube and subscribe to as many quilt sites as you want. You can watch as much as you want. Our create channel here shows a show several times a week. Not for me anymore.

I can no longer get any of those shows; our PBS station was dropped from Dish; I really enjoyed watching Nancy and F&P. There are no others out there any more.

Well, it is a business. It costs them money to be on the air. Where is that money going to come from if not product sales? Nice or not, that's the reality of it.
That being said, if you subscribe to Love of Quilting, then you likely already have the patterns since most of them come from there. I usually record the show and then can go back through with the magazine in hand to follow along for hints or tricks to make it easier. I've also enjoyed the change up from the different hosts, different ideas and perspectives come with change. |
In our area, we get Eleanor Burns on RFD TV, usually on Wednesday afternoon. I, too, liked Simply Quilts when it was on, oh so long ago.
