Formal Garden quilt
 

has anyone done the formal Garden quilt by jane sassaman? years ago i bought the fabric kit at a quilt show. never realized that it really has no pattern. free on her site but two pages that show were included in my bag. not a clue what to do with this.

sigh. anyone?? i assume the fabric is the whole piece? if not, cutting will be something to figure out!

What does the Zinnia fabric look like? Could you attach a picture of it? I suspect you are going to be doing some fussy cutting. The pattern shows finished sizes. I think you will need to add your seams (+ 1/2 inch per side).

It looks like the fabrics are fussy cut kaleidoscope fashion.

but I must figure out which fabric i have is to be cut for what; most frustrating. the seller put a note inside saying only to add seam allowances. I wish i'd looked at this when I bought it.

The yardage is different for each color. Have you measured each piece to find out how much fabric is there? Is it the same fabrics as the pdf pattern shows?

no haven't measured the fabric. still folded neatly as it was when i bought it. i just can't see cutting up this lovely fabric for 6 1/2 inch squares and that seems to be the "pattern". i will try to do something else with it I think.

IF the fabric is as brilliant as the photo - then you have quite a treasure. So very pretty!

Aren't this lady's quilts interesting. I haven't seen this fabric before (not in my town anyway) and I would have overlooked it - no imagination to see what can be done with it.

Do you have the same fabric shown in the quilt? If not you will have to match the yardage you have with that in the 'pattern'.

If you go ahead with this fussy-cut quilt, I agree all measurements need to have 1/2" added for seams.
Also be prepared to add a bit more to what will be the outside edge of those set-in triangles, as I think you will be left short if you just cut a 6 1/2" square and cut once or twice on the diagonal

Yes, I agree that it looks like the center blocks are 4 patch kaleidoscopes I have a device using a pair of mirrors for auditioning fabrics for kaleidoscopes. You could approximate the same things using two hand mirrors held together at a 90 degree angle. Move them around the fabric and see if you can find a similar pattern--or one that is pleasing to you. I think this could be a spectacular quilt.

Edited to add: Why not email her or contact her thru her blog. She has some beautiful patterns.

It looks to me like it should be folded with repeats stacked and then cut, like in the four-patch posies technique:
