Does anyone know how to determine the size of the square required to make the inset triangles on the edge of a quilt? The quilt is put together on point, so I need triangles to fill in the edges and the 4 corners of the quilt. If I use the same size as the quilt blocks, and cut them on the diagonal, they are too small.

Here's something I've found (scroll down to the bottom):

There's a ruler for that. Seriously. It totally takes any figuring out of setting triangles! Plus you cut them from strips instead of cutting huge squares on the diagonal. It's called a setting triangle ruler.

Thanks all, will try these tomorrow after work, just spent the day fabric shopping, life sure is good :)

here is one, and with diagrams for using it.. https://www.softexpressions.com/soft.../mmDiagSet.php and for those that can't afford to buy a ruler for a 1 or 2 time job: http://www.generations-quilt-pattern...triangles.html they do the math for you..just scroll down to see the info |
multiply size of square by 1.41 the round up-(so if on point blocks are 12" blocks- x 1.41= 16.92--or a 17" block) to determine the size square to cut diagonally twice for setting triangles.
