Four patch center
I remember seeing somewhere where you can clip a thread in the center intersection of a four patch block so the seams lay flat. Can someone please explain it to me or point me to a tutorial or video? I'm not even sure what to call it to try to Google it.
You guys are so great and know everything so I'm sure someone can help. THanks. |
This is a Quilt in a day technique. You release the two thread on the vertical (first seam stitched in jointing the two squares) then let the little pinwheel twirl in which ever direction they want to go. Then kind of smooth down. You will have a tiny pinwheel pattern on the back center. Press flat from front ...try it I know you can do it..sorry I can not be there to show you :)

I DO NOT cut the threads at the seam line. I unsew the threads by picking them out with a seam ripper or pin. I think cutting the threads at the seam line weakens the thread and might make the unit more prone to coming undone.
I usually leave about 1/4 of an inch of threads beyond the edge of the fabric when I can. Of course, that isn't possible when sewing units from strip piecing. |

Yes, I believe that Eleanor Burns came out with this first. If you watch her TV series, she often does the technique. It is important that you seams are pressed in the same direction and NOT towards the darker fabric.

Thank you all for your help. I get it now!! Sometimes I just need to see it.

I press "to the dark" when I can - or it's feasible - sometimes it is necessary to press "to the light" to make the seams nest better.

Barb, I can come over if you still need some help.
