I don't know what you call this technique, but I saw some hexagons framed with another fabric. I would like to know what it's called & how it's done.

don't understand. I do lots of hexagons, grandmother's garden style.

yep, framed. i call them individual. I've only done one quilt that way. a friend did one in lovely fabrics with black. gorgeous.

this is where you make a hexagon and batting, then backing is two inches larger. place batting in center of backing, wrong side up, and over that place the hexagon top fabric. start folding over one straight edge. place raw edge of backing fabric to edge of top fabric and fold once more, place pin. then go to next straight edge and do again. go around until backing is folded over the top hexagon fabric and stitch by hand (or machine).
when you have many done, start stitching them into rows. or what ever shape you want. some pics here http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum....ting&tid=61135 |
It sounds like one I did for I spy quilt. I used the novelty fabrics for fronts and then primary colors to fold over.I believe I seen the pattern in Australian Quilting. I have a large box of the hexagons, never finsihed. Maybe I will get in done in time for grandchildren some day.

they make a nice take along when you need something to do. car trips, Doctor appointments, etc.
yep Australian. My friend in England got me doing them and then my friend in Australia joined in. both their quilts were much prettier than mine. i used several different backing prints of leaves for the florals used on top. |

dakotamaid, I was thinking of the Hickory Nut, also. I have seen another version with a curved inner edge called (I think it's called) a MoMo star -- it is really cute and on my to do list.
