Have any of you seen one of these? I went to my local Singer dealer today. He has a lot of old machines in his shop. I finally saw featherweights so I now realize how small they are. No wonder you all love them, they are adorable.
Anyway, he showed me one that he said was very rare. The bed slipped off and it became a free arm machine. He said it was made in UK and he bought it in Australia. A collector offered him $4000 for it but he's not selling. Are these really that rare? He also had about 20 toy machines, some older and some newer. |
The "freearm featherweight" is a 222K, and they're fairly hard to find, and worth 1200.00 or more.

I saw one on Ebay that was offered with some really rare accessories for just under $2000 and no one bid on it and I think it was worth it...$4000, I doubt it!

WOW!!! Never heard of one!!

I was thinking that $4000 was kind of a stretch. I don't really know the man and so don't know how much of what he says is just hot air. He wants to retire, and his shop is for sale, but he says he has hundreds of used machines to unload if he just has to close. I told him I knew a group of ladies who would take his featherweights. LOL He said he does not even have a computer so he has no idea of the demand for them. He did not know the model number of his old machines. He had a 66 red eye and I told him what that was. I also told him he could identify and determine the value of his old machines on the internet. Anyway it was an interesting day. I would like to buy a couple of his machines if he would sell them.

The free arm Featherweights (222's) were sold in Canada so are a little easier to find and are not as expensive as in the U.S.A. The last one I saw advertised on Kijiji (a Canadian version of Craig's list) was listed at $750 which is the best price I've seen. The tan 221's were also made in Canada. I keep hoping that I'll find one at an estate sale but it hasn't happened yet.

We're going to be in your area (maybe) in 2 weeks, are you near Almonte? We are going to a VW event there called Busfusion, if you like to look at old VW's and a bunch of crazy folks who drive them, come on down...we're in a blue bus with Ga plates.

I see them on Ebay every now and then. As much as I love FW's I really don't care about that one. (It's a good thing lol)
