free motion quilting on a Grace Frame
Hi everybody!!
Recently I started to quilt on the Grace Frame with a Janome 1600P with speed controle and after having quilted 2 quilts it won't take the bobbinthread anymore when I quilt verticaly. Does anyone have had the same problem? I realy am very disapointed because I finished the top of a big Christmas quilt and now I can't finish it. Is there somebody that could help me out?? Thanks a million!! Gerry |
What do you mean, "it won't take the bobbin thread anymore?" Do you mean you can't load the bobbin? Clean out the race and give it a bit of oil. Do you mean the bobbin thread won't come up to the top? Re-thread your machine and change the needle. Try a different thread. Clean the machine and oil it. If all else fails call the dealer and see if they can give you phone assistance.

Ot do you mean it's not catching the bobbin thread and therefore not making a stitch? Are you quilting with cotton? Definitely try cleaning lint first and be sure the thread path is clear and it is threaded correctly. Good luck! ;)

I don't have any experience with your set up. If you have cleaned the machine, change needle and thread and are still having trouble, the timing may be off on the machine. If the timing is off, it needs to go to the repairman. Sometimes if a quilt sandwich is too taut, the machine has trouble making a stitch also.

remember you have to make sure you get the bobbin in all the way. that happen
to me once and i didn't have the bobbin in all the way |
If your quilt is to far off the bed of the machine this can happen also.

I was helping a friend and she had this problem. We finally changed the batting for a different batting and it worked. Easy to test - make a simple sandwich with two fabric scraps and a scrap of different batting. See if you can pick up the bobbin thread in the small sandwich.
