Free Motion Quilting ideas

I am in the process of quilting a BOM quilt. Of course, each block is different, and I want to quilt each block differently. Is there anyplace online that shows ideas for whole block quilting? I know about Leah Day's filler patterns, but I'm looking for ideas for the whole blocks. I tend to concentrate on only the small individual areas (triangles, stars, etc.) instead of the whole block, and I'd like to get away from that.

No help from me. I just do a large stipple, all over the whole quilt. It works well for me.

I am doing the same type of thing with some hawaiian quilting blocks. I will probably quilt each block, with an echo quilting and then put them together with sashing in between the blocks and quilt the sashing. I will be doing mine by hand, but that may be an idea for your blocks. Also, they suggest outline quilting around the applique that I am doing.

If you could show us a picture of the quilt, it might help us give you quilting ideas.

Oh I like echo quilting....one of my machines even has an echo foot (a large circle with circle marks to follow)

Most of my pattern books have a few sprinkled in, but google is generally my favorite way to find new motifs. When I find one I like, I can print it out in any scale to fit my block.

Leah Day has a great site for free motion quilting designs. Her site has a lot of videos showing how to stitch out each design. Oops I see her blog has been recommended. Freemotionquilting.blogspot

Go to Green Fairy's blog http://greenfairyquilts.blogspot.com/ and look through her archives or gallery. She has done many many sampler quilts with different designs in each block.

Pick a theme and run with it. Like feathers? They can be modified to fit many, many different shapes like the points in a star, a background rectangle or triangle, a feather wreath in the center square of a churn dash, etc.

Here is a sampler I did with a different design done in each block: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...c-t185132.html

You are only limited by your imagination and comfort zone and the comfort zone is meant to be broken out of.

Thanks so much for the ideas! I'm slowly working my way through the blocks in the quilt. I'll post a photo when it's finished.
