Free Motion Quilting Newbie
 

I have the Gracie Queen Frame and a Juki TL98e as a new set up. The 98e is not compatible with a stitch regulator. Is is reasonable to trade up to TL 2010 Q and how does the Janome 1600P QC and Brother 1500s compare in this group for short arm quilting?

Are you sure you need a stitch regulator? I recently bought a used midarm system that came without a stitch regulator. Although my stitches are not perfect, I really do not need a stitch regulator for meander, loops, and pantos. I think I will need one eventually if/when I want to start doing ruler work, but that will be a year or so from now.

I use a stitch regulator sometimes and not others. Personally no difference in performance. The better I become at free motion the less I seem to want or need to use the regulator.i love the set up you have and find it very smoth operation.

I started on a TL98e and used a Quilters Cruise control. I have upgraded now, but my friend purchased it from me and uses is all the time.

I have a tl98e juki on a next generation frame both I bought from different private sales. The frame only had 1 quilt done on it and the lady didn't care for it so she sold me the frame and the cruise control in a package deal. She had a mega quilters and the cruise control doesn't plug into the juki. She said she had never used it and only doing 1 quilt I am sure she was telling the truth but my question is can I buy adapters to make it work with the juki or is there a place that will take trade ins to get exactly what I need for the juki? very new to this set up also and want to get started with this new learning experience. thanks for any help.

I don't have a stitch regulator on my 18" Innova...you can do it without one.....there is just a little learning curve, of course I don't do this for hire, just for fun. So far no one has wanted to return a quilt cause my stitching isn't perfect...LOL!!! Most folks don't notice because they don't sew or quilt!!!

Glad I found this discussion. I just purchased the same frame and machine.
I was wondering if you set your stitch dial on 0 or what? I have no idea. This is all new to me.
The stitches on mine seem really small. Is that normal?
