I've been practicing on "ugly strip" potholders with old towels or such used as batting. These have been excellent for close FMQ and trying not to cross my lines.

The huge scrappy quilt top pieced for our bed is the challenge I'm facing.

You folks are wonderful! So, what's the best way to make sure the spacing is consistent from day to day/ one area to another?

Before starting the huge quilt, I'll practice on our pooches placemat. My greatest fear? My tendency to be inconsistent will make the projects look laughable. Some areas WILL look better than others just because I'm gaining confidence and skill. Why do I let such an "easy and fun" thing intimidate me?

I do like seeing the loft, that's why I love handquilting for those special quilts. Sometimes durability dictates machine quilting, like my nephew's outdoorsy crib quilt. It's going to get WASHED!!!:)
