I was thinking of using soft, faux suede fringe, about 2" long. I like willferg's idea of doing a raggedy fringe too.

I put a lace "fringe" on a quilt...I sandwiched it between the front and the back with right side together and then sewed around the edge, leaving a space open to turn it right-side-out. Then I did SID between the squares (very little quilting) and tied a button in the middle with the bows.

Oh, that's precious! It wouldn't take much fringe. I'll bet there's lots of scraps and end lots available out there. I know of a couple places that have free give-aways of scrap fabrics once a month. Their only rule is that the receiver uses them for something...better than going into the landfill.
