Have seen frosted rulers mentioned in several posts and everyone seems to love them but I can't imagine why they would be better than a clear ruler so could someone please explain? Thank you.

Many people can just see the markings more clearly. I love the frosted rulers.... plus they seem to be the one that slips the least... for me anyway.
You should go to a quilt store and put one on top of some fabric to see if you like the way they look. I like them on darker fabrics as well as light |
I'm curious, too. I would think it would be better to be able to see through them, but maybe there is something else to it.

Lots of people really like them. I didn't and gave mine away!
|
I love them because the frosting tones down the print and the colors in the fabric so the the lines stand out more. I'm hoping that my other rulers break so I can purchase more of the frosted ones.

i like mine (Olfa Brand) for all the reasons given, PLUS the fact that they are made with a slightly thinner sheet of plastic. they're still very sturdy, but my cuts are significantly more accurate than with my other favorite rulers.
on my Olfa rectangular rulers, the angle lines radiate from the horizontal middle. that really comes in handy! :-) |
i tried them, but did not like them---went back to my Olfa with the yellow/black markings---love them.

I love mine, too (also Olfa). If you've never seen one, I can understand why the "frosted" idea is confusing. They aren't like frosted glass that blocks out some of what you see. They're more like non-glare glass that just blocks the shiny reflections. I think they're much easier to use and much more accurate than any others I have used.

I love the frosted rulers. Wish all mine were like that now. I can see the lines better on both light and dark fabric.
