I am in the process of brainstorming for quilt ideas for a fundraiser that I volunteered for. I just found out that some friends of the family are having a fundraiser on Feb 19th for my cousin who has Stage 4 Colon cancer to help offset the unbelievable amount of medical bills that have accumulated.

With the vast amount of talent here on the board, I know that you all will be able to help... :)

Here are my questions:
I'm not sure if I should focus on a ribbon block (or big ribbon shape) and make the quilt about the cancer or if I should leave out the ribbon and just do it in blues (that is the color of the colon cancer ribbon)?
Does anyone here have ideas for a ribbon quilt or ribbon blocks that are somewhat quick and easy?

Making a non theme quilt may appeal to more people... just a thought...

I agree make the non-themed quilt but thenput a themed label on it.

I would sell raffle tickets rather than expect i person to buy the quilt. And have a lot of small gifty items that someone can purchase.

I agree a non themed quilt I know someone who won a quilt it had pics in it of the family who the money was being raised for and she didn't want it because she knew none of these people it ended up going to goodwill

For a fundraiser that I made a quilt for I did it in a theme of interest to the person the fundraiser it was for. In the end his grandmother won it and gave it to him. I think they auctioned it off.

This sounds like a great idea. I think more people would buy tickets for it or it would go better as an auction item if it would "fit" in everyone's home.

Thanks Dottie, I was thinking $1 a ticket or 6 for $5... I'm sure that many people will take a chance at a handmade quilt for $1, I know I would. :)

Stars seem to be a universal favorite. Just my thought, :-D

This is what I finally came up with. 52"x68" Quick & easy... I am very pleased with it...
I would like to get it quilted at the LQS (inexpensively, I hope) A lady that I work with also works part time at the LQS. I am going to take it to work with me tomorrow & see what she can do...

I did that for my school - and we made over $100. My issue was that I was auctioning off the chance for a t-shirt quilt, (i.e. the winner gave me their shirts and I made them a personalized quilt) but in reality everyone just wanted *my* quilt that was already done.

they wanted to win what they could see. -- we're thinking of getting another one together that is more generalized to auction off this year - but it might not happen until next year.

Very pretty quilt- people love blue, you should sell lots of raffle tickets. Sorry about your friend's illness (((hugs))).

I am currently working on a similar pattern but I am having trouble getting the small dark brown squares to line up correctly. How did you piece the top to get it so perfectly aligned. Your quilt looks great!

Can you start selling raffle tickets before the fundraiser and raffle the quilt after? If you try to sell tickets on the day of the fundraiser only you may not get much. Can you auction it instead during the fundraiser? You want to raise ore than you spend making it. Is beautiful. Good luck.

I made sure the pieces were cut exactly the right size and "nested" the seams. I ironed toward the darker color and butted them close together. And pinned... ALOT! I hope this helps...

I am hoping to be able to start selling tickets ASAP. I want to raise as much money as possible... I know that I can sell a lot of tickets at work and my family and my hubby's family would definately like to get in on it too. Not including the people involved in the fundraiser, I'm sure they would like to sell tickets to their families too. I am going to have fliers printed with the pic of the top, that way if it goes to the quilter, I will still have something to show to sell tickets...
I used fabrics from my stash that I got at our LQS for $2 or $3 a yard, so I don't have much invested in it... yet...
