I Have used it up to twin size. It was nice to not worry about avoiding pins when machine quilting, and I even hand quilted a lap quilt with it. That made me very nervous - not basting it first! - but it was fine.
The ones I used were VERY low-loft. Not just low loft, which I like just fine, but lower loft than I care for. But the quilting part went fine. |
I use it all the time and look for it whenever I buy batting. It's much easier to quilt without getting wrinkles.

bettlove, what is the biggest project you do?
I have made queen size quilts - that's the biggest. I also make twin size and throws.
Yes, called June Tailor Quilter's Fusible Batting. I prefer low loft. There is also a web site www.junetailor.com
I have seen it in walmart on bolts for sale by yard...it would be handy sometimes so basting or pinning :D
I used the low loft for the first time in my guitar applique wallhanging. I didn't have any problems. It was very stiff, but when my project was completed, I washed it in cold & it was very soft.
I have used it but I was not crazy for it. Too low loft. But it is great for crafts, like totes and things!
I used it and will not use it again for a large quilt. It was as stiff as a board and I had trouble getting it to cooperate. Don't recall the brand. Generally, I would give fusible batts a thumbs down.

You can get it in a higher loft. I have never had it be stiff. Are you confusing it with fusible lining? You can get that real stiff for craft projects.
I just used it to make a bag.... It works great for that, but it can gum up the needle.... Has anyone had trouble with that? Quilter1234

I have not had a problem with gumming up the needle but I have heard of it before. I wonder why sometimes it gums and sometimes it doesn't. Did you have fabric on both sides of the batting?
I didn't have a problem with gumming. I did both machine and hand quilting.
For Crib quilts up to Queen I just use a normal low loft batting.
The fusible batting I use for small quilts or I also used it for some placemats... Easy to use, good product. No problems... Kirsten |
