what thickness of fleece does everyone use for the bow tucks bags? I have pellon 987F and 973F the 973 is very thick

it calls for 987, i tried one a bit thicker and it was a headache

Agree, the thicker one is more of a craft fleece. If you want a little thicker, start off with shirt-tailer interfacing then put the 987F over the top of that. It's just enough to make it stiffer yet, not too bulky to work with.

I used cotton batting for mine and temporary spray adhesive and it worked out very nice. Saved a lot of money not buying the pellon.

I use the thick one. And when i'm going through the thick seams, I use a heavy duty needle. No more needle breakage. And i'm sewing on a singer 401. I made one with the thin fleece and didn't like the way it turned out. Not sturdy enough for my liking.

You could try what I do. I use the heavy fleece for the outside of the bag, the outside pocket and the inside pockets. I use the thin for everything else. Makes it a little firmer.

I do the same thing...especially on the handle, the thin is easier to sew through.

I use the 987 for all of it and was happy with the results.

I found that the 987F that the pattern calls for works better than the others. 973 that I can find at WM is too thick. I finally ordered 987 from Overstock.com It's perfect.

I've contemplated doing it with just one layer though, putting it on just the outside or inside layer. Has anybody tried this before?
