Are Fussy Cut Rulers worth having around? I can get a set of 3 that are 3.5, 4.5 and 6.5 for around $14.00. I have already done one fussy cut quilt and not knowing if I might do another one at some point I was thinking about getting them. The last quilt I did I didn't have them and just used a regular ruler but was a little awkward using a long ruler. Are they useful for other things other then fussy cutting?

if you get template plastic you can definitely cut your own. for that amount of $, i would not buy them on spec. but, i'm cheap.

I have a June Taylor (Tailor) fussy cut ruler and I do NOT like it. You have to cut into those little slots, and so your blade is constantly knicking into the ruler, dulling that portion of the blade. I would rather use a small square up ruler the size of the block that I am trying to fussycut, and you would also be able to use them to square up blocks.

I like the ones from Quilt in a Day - the seam allowance is marked, I can see exactly what the fussy cut will be & I can use my rotary cutter with them (if I use template plastic, I more often than not shave the template plastic with my rotary cutter.)

There was a thread earlier this year about this. You can buy a BIG sheet of acrylic at Loewe's, and they will ACURATELY cut it into smaller pieces for you. Keep the receipt, and you can take the leftover big piece back later to have more pieces cut. Initially, you'll probably pay more than $14, but you'll get the sizes you want PLUS MORE. You can have strip templates cut, too - such as 2 1/2 X 24, 3 x 24 etc etc. We all cut strips, and these templates make it so much easier to cut them. Label each of them with a Sharpie pen.

any clear plastic ruler of any size can be used to fussy cut. i usually haul out my 6-1/2" square ruler to do the job.

i went to my local glass company and had them cut me some out of plexiglass, i think they were about $4.00 apiece.
