I did my bit this week to ensure we have an up and coming future quilter. My DH's Autie is here with her granddaughter whom is 9 years old, while everyone was sleeping she was bored so I said wanna go sew and we did. I cut the material showed her how to do it put the machine on turle and she sewed it up all by herself. I did stuff it for her...Proud as punch she was , then we went to Leah Day's fmg web site and she watched all the tuts on fmqing- she loved it....Grandma can sew don't know why she doesn't teach her.....She is ready *LOL*

I do something like that with my grandson. He enjoys watching me hand embroider and from time to time wants to do a stitch or two, so I let him pull the needle and direct him in how the stitch needs to be done. Now he has taken to coming into the sewing room to watch me sew when i'm in there, asking questions all the time. I don't see how we expect our youth to learn something if we don't teach them. I don't know if we still have home ec classes in school that make sewing a part of the lesson plan.
That was great of you to take her in and teach her. Even better I bet she will remember it for a very long time to come.
I still don't want anyone in the kitchen though when i'm cooking.
