General sewing question
Just sewing two pieces of flannel together with a straight stitch. Top thread is white. Bbobbin thread is pink. On the bottom side, the white loops are loose. What do I need to do?
I know this is something elementary but I've never had anyone "teach" me to sew and I don't have anyone to ask but you folks and you've never steered me wrong before. Thanks!! |
Tighten your top tension a little. Keep trying it on some scraps until you achieve the balance of the two. It will rarely be the bobbin tension you have to adjust. What kind of machine do you have?
|
Your top tension is too loose and you need to tighten it. Just tighten a little at a time and check your sample stitches until they even up.

If you haven't rethreaded the top and bobbin threads already, do that to make sure it's threaded correctly.
|
I was taught that problems on the bottom mean that the top thread is either not threaded correctly, or the top tension needs adjusted. Before I start adjusting the tension I always rethread, both the top thread and the bottom. Make sure the pressure foot is UP when you thread the top, and that the thread is caught properly between the tension discs.

Thank you guys! I knew you would come through.
