Generic walking foot-is it me or do I need brand specific item?

Was supposed to fit my machine but didn't!

At least that's what I think...

I watched tutorials and set it up just like the video showed. It grazes the plate so I can't use it at all!

Should I even bother trying to get the brand name walking foot?

The one I used was not a Singer brand but it was supposed to fit my machine. I saw a Singer brand walking foot and I'm thinking about trying it out.

Could the generic walking foot be off or is it some kind of operator error(which is the first conclusion I jump to because I'm very error prone!)

Thank you.

There have been several past threads on generic walking feet that you might find helpful. I think the general consensus is to spend the extra money and get the brand name walking foot for your machine. Many generics just don't hold up very long and cost more in the long run. I use my walking foot a lot, so don't mind getting the best one I can for my Juki.

Joann's has a Singer walking foot for $20, but I don't know how good it is. I was looking at it for my friend, who I am teaching to quilt.

When using my Singer years and years ago, I did get some generic feet. But with my Janome i keep to their brand. This machine cost a lot and i'm not ruining it to save a bit of money. Good luck with your choice.

Please make sure it is low shank or high shank, maybe slant shank. The low shank will not touch the sole plate if you have a high shank machine. Just something to think about.

Important reminder!

I have used both on my Brother machines. THere is a size difference between models but the generic one I bought because I misplaced the one that came with my ULT 2002D works fine with it. I eventually did find the missing one but keep the other handy just in case.

I bought a generic walking foot for my Janome, and after several months, it just keep falling off. So frustrating. I ended up ordering a Kenmore set of 4 feet ,one of which was the walking foot, for less than cost of 2 feet. I would say get a brand specific walking foot and skip any more headaches.
