A 'get by' 9 degree ruler substitute?
I'd like to do a project, but have a feeling this would be a one only project
Can anyone think of how to make a substitute. As I write this I'm thinking the idea is dumb, but hey... :) |
You could make a template out of cardboard or plastic if you could get the accurate angles with a protractor. You would have to use it for a guide and still put a regular rotary cutter ruler over it to get your cuts. Doable be a little tricky.

And also don't forget to add your seam allowances.

Draw the shape on card stock, add 1/4" seam allowance. But place the 1/4" of your ruler on the shape line, then you'll always get an accurate cut.

I make my own wedges all the time, I use a protractor (D shaped w/ a movable arm in the center at hobby lobby or wally world for about $3) I draw it onto freezer paper, that way you can press it to the top layer of fabric (or singles for fussy cutting) and cut extremely accurately

Does your ruler have to be see-through, or can it be opaque? I have an opaque one you can have. :thumbup:

is it really opaque or does it have peel off paper on it? i got one long ago and did not realize the paper peeled off!

I was wondering if you could mark a 9 degree line on one of your existing rulers and use it the the same way you use the other lines, like 45 and 60 degree lines. You could mark it on the top of some clear tape placed on the ruler in the right spot.

No paper, these were truly opaque through-and-through. The quilter who produced them knew that it was a problem and her website said if you emailed her with your receipt, she would replace them with her newer style which were - ahem - clear, but she never replied to the many emails I sent. :(

If you have an Ace Hardware or a True Value Hardware store, they may cut one for you. I would go there and ask.

What is a 9 degree wedge? That sounds really skinny to me.
