Getting rid of the dreaded drag when fmq
 

I have a sit down juki 2200 QVP. I have problems with quilting smoothly on large quilts. I do have an extension table on left side that helps. My main problem is with the front of the quilt. I just can’t seem to get it positioned correctly to push smoothly when fmq. Any ideas?

I keep it fluffed up in my lap and I do have to stop to refluff a lot.

I keep as much of the quilt as possible loosely folded in my lap, which is great in the winter but too warm in the summer. Possibly bring in a second chair next to you to help share the load.

There is a HQ educator who puts a small pillow with a slick surface in her lap to keep the quilt from getting "hung up" there.

I recently took an FMQ class and the teacher said that she looped the quilt over her shoulder to keep it from dragging in the front.

One of the best ways to eliminate drag is to suspend the quilt. Leah Day uses elastic cords hung from the ceiling, with clamps on the quilt. Alternatively, you can hang quilt "suspenders" from a frame. The Jenoop is no longer made, but many people have constructed their own from PVC. I have tried the hanging system. What a hassle!

Have you tried:
1. putting a table behind your sewing table so the quilt just runs flat off your sewing table
2. putting a pool noodle between your table and the wall and letting your quilt run up the wall (as opposed to off the end of the table and down)?
Both of these things have worked for me at one time or another. Right now I'm finding #2 the best for my limited space.

I have the Jenn-loop and love it for when I quilt on my smaller machine. Had no idea they were no longer being made....wonder why?
