A gift idea for the readers on your list

So my MIL is an avid reader, her birthday is coming up in a week and we got her a book we think she may enjoy reading. Last week, I started thinking up of an easy way to make a bookmark for her, I am not a sewer, lol, so it had to be something easy. Well, here is what I came up with today.

Making them was very easy and fast. I used some scraps form my sunflower quilt and made a 6.5" string block. I added a fusible to the wrong side of the block and then cut two 2" strips. Used an old desk calendar( any card stock would work) and fused a strip to both sides and then used a tight zigzag to stitch all the way around it. Easy peazy, especially if you have some orphan blocks laying around. :D I think putting this bookmark inside the book would add that personal ouch to the gift, and of course every book needs a bookmark :)

Did you sew thru the cardstock on your machine? I did not know you could sew that. I guess you used a bigger needle?
Anyway, I love the idea. Thanks!

Really good idea
One of the members of the QB's quilt novel book club (aka Creativesheila's quilt novel musings) suggested we make bookmarks using fabric we swapped last summer. This pattern will do very nicely. Thanks
