Given 20 cones of Perma Core thread
 

I was given 20 cones of this. It is rather dusty and the inside states Perma Core on most of them. They are 6000 yds. Can anyone give me info on this? And what to do about dusty threads?

pull off the last layer if it bothers you... it will be washed when the item is washed so it's up to you...

Lucky you. I am now using serger thread that was bought almost 18 yrs ago to make free standing lace ornaments and it's doing great. Once in a while the thread will break but other than that it's doing great. Thank goodness mine has plastic on it but you can still see the dust right under the edges; I brush it off and go with it. It's saving me alot of money and for free standing lace it holds up better than rayon.

I have tons of this that I was given years ago, and many that I acquired for less than $2 a 6000 yd cone. I use it in my serger and my Babylocks. The ones I have have the original plastic bags on them and are stored in plastic tote and in my cabinets. Before I use them I first take a vacuum to them, then unwind the top layer or two. Then take them outside and use a can of air on them.

perma core is basicly used for longarm quilting, I am a longarmer. it is rather heavy for a regular machine, I do not like it for piecing. it does work good in my serger.

Lucky you!! A&E Perma Core thread is the perferred thread for many longarm quilters. It is strong to withstand the high speed of longarm machines. Dust it off and enjoy!
