Glue Baste: remove backing?
 

I glue basted my quilt together and started stabilizing it tonight. I realized I had a pucker glued on the backing, so I tried to pull it apart and the backing tore in my hands! It is a very flimsy muslin from Joanns, and I didn't like it, but I didn't expect it to do that!

So I took my stitching out and now I'm finding that if I try to pull the backing fabric off, the batting splits. I'm mad enough that I wasted my money on the backing fabric, but at least I can find some use for it after I wash the glue out! I don't want to waste the batting too!

It's 100% polyester, if that matters.

This is the first and only time I've bought fabric from Joanns. Not a happy consumer!

Dampen the glue before you try to take it apart from the batting. It will come apart once the glue is wet again.

Yes, I would spray the backing with water and give it a little time to penetrate to the glue, then try again (gently) to peel the backing away from the batting.

If nothing else works maybe you could use a different backing right over the one that is on the sandwich now. Not sure if this can be done as I'm a newbie but sound like it might. Good luck.

water spry works ive done it--i just smoothed it out and ironed dry

Thanks ya'll. I'll spray it tonight. Wouldn't mind keeping the front and the batting together and starting with a new backing.

Still mad enough to spit nails, but glad it tore then than waiting until I was 3/4 of the way done!!!
